Grace N Grace Noll Crowell was born in Inland, Iowa, spending her childhood in “a plain farm house set in orchards.” Baylor University, Waco, Texas, conferred on her the Litt.D. degree. Mrs. Crowell began writing poetry while recovering from an injury. During her time of suffering she laid firmer hold on the Source of comfort. This booklet thus grows out of her own experience. “The Marshland,” her first poem to be printed, appeared in 1907. Since then many of her poems have been published in this country and in England, and have won a world-wide reading. Mrs. Crowell has contributed numerous meditations to The Upper Room. She is also the author of several books, some of which are: Meditations, Moments of Devotion, and Journey into Dawn. She was poet laureate of Texas, 1935-37, and was chosen by the Golden Rule Foundation as American Mother for 1938.
